Thysanoptera of Japan

Stenchaetothrips biformis (Bagnall, 1913)

This genus is similar to the genus Thrips, but can be distinguished from the later by the anteocellar setae much longer than interocellar setae, and all species breed on Poaceae. This species is widespread across southern part of Europe to Asia including Japan and Australia, and invaded to some countries of northern part of Sout America. It can be distinguished from the congeners by the fore wings that are uniformly dark brown.
